When it comes to search – it`s what you enter as a keyword will either return desired results or put them on the second page. In this article, I wanted to share with you how you can define a set of authorative pages which will come before all the other results matching the keyword.
Say you have an HR department and you want forms to come up before all of the other results if users search for a specific forms. Let`s see what`s involved:
1. Log into SharePoint 2010 Central Administration and ensure the account you`re using is a Search service application administrator
2. Click Manage service applications, under Application Management.
3. Click the Search service application in the list of available service applications.
4. On the Search Administration page, click Authoritative Pages on the left in the quick launch area.
5. Here, type the URLs of pages that are most authoritative, in the Most authoritative pages under Authoritative Web Pages section. You can enter more than one by placing one URL per line.
In the Second-level authoritative pages , type the URLs of pages that are secondary, etc.
The Non-authoritative Sites section, you can specify the pages that must be demotes, for example sites with outdated items.
6. For your changes to take affect right away – set Refresh now checkbox and hot OK. By default ranking is calculated according to a default schedule.
Enjoy!
